PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for increasing the abundance ratio of a facial isomer by isomerizing a meridional isomer in an ortho-metalated iridium compound isomer mixture to convert it into the facial isomer. SOLUTION: The method for isomerizing the ortho-metalated iridium compound comprises photo-irradiating a solution or a suspension containing the ortho-metalated iridium compound as an isomer mixture of the meridional and facial isomers or a solution or a suspension containing the ortho-metalated iridium compound as a meridional isomer to isomerize the meridional isomer in the isomer mixture solution or suspension or the meridional isomer in the meridional isomer solution or suspension into the facial isomer, thus increasing the abundance ratio of the facial isomer.
