PURPOSE: A serial interface device is provided to effectively transmit data with only one signal line by making a level of the data transmitted through the signal line into a multilevel over 3 levels. CONSTITUTION: The device comprises a master IC(210) and a slave IC(220). The master IC comprises a signal generator(211) and a signal detector(212). A signal generator(211) converts transmission data into a data signal having the multilevel over 3 levels, outputs a control signal as the multilevel signal over 3 levels, and outputs the data signal. A signal detector(212) receives the data signal over 3 levels, converts the data signal into reception data, receives the control signal over 3 levels, and processes the data depending on the control signal. The slave IC comprises the signal generator(221) and the signal detector(222) having the same function as the signal generator and the signal detector of the master IC.
