PURPOSE: A video display device having a function of automatically removing an after image, and a method for removing an after image thereof are provided to automatically remove an after image if a still image is continuously display for a predetermined time and no viewer exists within a service area. CONSTITUTION: A signal processor(200) processes video signals inputted from the outside for outputting video signals and audio signals to a screen(710) and a speaker(720). A detecting sensor(510) detects the existence of a user within a predetermined range from the screen when the video signals of the same pattern are displayed on the screen after preliminarily set time passes. If a signal corresponding to the non-existence of the user is output, a control unit(300) controls the signal processor to display an after-image removing image on the screen.
