PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a spacer for optical fiber by which smoothness in a groove, the strength of ribs, and stability of a shape in extrusion molding can be secured, and to provide the spacer for optical fiber. SOLUTION: When a resin-made spacer body 11 which has a tensile strength wire 51 in the center and has a plurality of grooves 54 for storing a plurality of ribbons 55 of coated optical fibers around the tensile strength wire 51 is molded by extrusion, a plurality of layers of ribs 56 between adjacent grooves 54 of the spacer body 11 are constituted in one body by extruding a plurality of kinds of resins. Consequently, resins having different characteristics can be selected by positions of the spacer body 11, so the smoothness of the spacer body 11, the mechanical strength of the ribs, and the stability of the sectional shape can be improved to make optical fibers stored in the grooves 54 high in density without increasing the transmission loss of the optical fibers.
