PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display apparatus which can display both of character information and non-character information with good picture quality by using an inexpensive display element having a relatively small number of images. SOLUTION: The display apparatus is equipped with: a dot matrix type display; a sampling means to sample input image signals to supply to the display; and an information adding means to add character information to the input image signals. The sampling means supplies image signals to all pixels of the display, with the image signals having different phases which are spatially coincident with the display positions of the respective pixels, in the region where the character information is not displayed. In the region where the character information is displayed, the sampling means supplies image signals having one phase to one group of a plurality of adjacent pixels constituting one dot of the display, the one phase being spatially coincident with the display position of a given one pixel in the plurality of pixels.
