Organoboron halides, esters or alkoxides with one or two perfluorinated polyether or perfluoroalkyl groups attached to boron via an alkylene spacer are new. Organoboranes of formula Ra-Yb-B(Xc)2 (I) or (Ra-Yb)2BXc (II) are new. Ra = a perfluorinated polyether or perfluorinated alkyl group with 1-16 (preferably 6-12) carbon atoms; Yb = an alkylene spacer, preferably ethylene; Xc = halogen, acetoxy or alkoxy Independent claims are also included for: (1) a method (M1) for the synthesis of polyfluoroboranes (I) from compounds of formula Rf-X1 (IV) by conversion to the corresponding organometallics Rf-MgBr, RfMgI or Rf-Li followed by reaction with BHal(OMe)2, B(OMe)3, B(OAlk)3, BHal(OAlk)2, B(OAc)3 or BHal(OAc)2 (2) a similar method (M2) for the production of (II) from Rf-X1 (IV), by using BHal(OAlk)2 in the second stage (3) a composite system comprising a substrate coated with a polyfluoroalkylboryl surface film produced from (I) or (II) (4) a method (M3) for coating substrates by treatment with (I) or (II).
