<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic instrument which tells whether a power source for conducting processing for a storage device is ensured. <P>SOLUTION: An electronic instrument 1 is connected to a host device 2 provided with an application for setting the electronic instrument 1 by using an USB (Universal Serial Bus) cable 3. Before starting data processing stored on an HDD (Hard Disk Drive) 15 of the electronic instrument 1, an AC power supply detection section 18-a of the electronic instrument 1 detects the presence or absence of supply of AC power. The detection result is transmitted to the application 26-a to start the data processing based on the detection result. Before starting the rewrite of a system file stored on a Flash ROM 14 of the electronic instrument 1, the AC power supply detection section 18-a detects the presence or absence of the supply of the AC power. A remaining battery capacity detection section 18-b detects remaining battery capacity.
