Oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions are free of emulsifiers of HLB above 8 and contain (a) a glycero-phospholipid and/or sphingolipid as stabilizer; and (b) an emulsion-insoluble particulate material with an average diameter of maximum 200 microns. An Independent claim is also included for production of the stabilized emulsions by: (1) separately heating the aqueous phase and the glycero-phospholipid and/or sphingolipid-containing fatty phase to ca. 70- 85 degrees C; (2) stirring the aqueous phase with the fatty phase in a homogenizer; (3) optionally cooling the emulsion to 50 degrees C and adding a polymeric thickener; and (4) cooling the emulsion to 30 degrees C and adding component (B) as well as other additives
