A biopsy device is provided (10). The biopsy device (10) includes cutter and a sample tube (516) advancable through the hollow cutter to retrieve a tissue sample severed by the cutter. A vacuum source can be provided in communicati on with the sample tube (516). The sample tube (516) can be releasably attached to the biopsy device.
