PURPOSE: A system and a method for controlling the emission of a diesel engine are provided to improve the combustion efficiency of a diesel engine by supplying dimethyl ether depending on the engine operating condition and guiding the optimal combustion. CONSTITUTION: A system for controlling the emission of a diesel engine comprises a bombe(110) storing dimethyl ether, operating state detecting units(120-126) detecting the operating condition of a diesel engine, an engine control unit(130) generating a dimethyl ether supply control signal by deciding the low air-fuel ratio operation of the diesel engine, and a dimethyl ether supply unit(140) mounted between the bombe and a combustion chamber, driven with the input of the dimethyl ether supply control signal and controlling the amount of dimethyl ether supplied to the combustion chamber from the bombe.
