PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of an image display device capable of accurately and effectively bonding a long spacer between a pair of substrates. SOLUTION: A manufacturing method of an image display device having a plurality of spacers 74 between a pair of glass rear plates and a glass face plate, comprises gripping a plurality of spacers 74, and assembling the gripped plurality of spacers to the glass rear plate. In gripping the plurality of spacers 74, a pair of hands including a hand in fixed side(such as strut 11, a vertical guide 13, a fixed side plate 12, a fixed pawl 14, a moving pawl 15, a rotation supporting part 16, an air cylinder 18 ) and a tension applying side hand (such as a strut 32, a vertical guide 33, a fixed side plate 32, a fixed pawl 34, a moving pawl 35 a rotation supporting part 36, an air cylinder 38 ) are used to grip the spacer 74 at each of both ends in a longitudinal direction.
