PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positioning method, which requires no skilled hand and is simplified/accelerated, in which time is not required for a ship steering and which can position a bucket at the front end of an excavator with excellent reproducibility at a dredging suspending place or the like. SOLUTION: In the method for positioning a dredging-start place, a first GPS receiver (GPS1) is installed at the rear of a boom (2b) for the excavator mounted at the front end section of a dredger (1), and a second GPS receiver (GPS2) or an azimuth sensor (S) is secured at the place of a revolving shaft (z) for the base of a revolver (2a). In the positioning method for the dredging-start place, the place of the front end section of the boom is computed from a place detected by the first or second GPS receiver, an azimuth orientation detected by the first or second GPS receiver or the azimuth sensor and the size of the excavator and the place is set as the dredging-start place.
