PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the earthquake-resisting performance for abutment or pier. SOLUTION: Laminated rubber layers 196 are installed on a bridge pier 194, and a bridge girder 192 is erected on the laminated rubber layers 196. A load borne by a bridge girder 192 is transmitted to the bridge pier 194 as an axial force through the laminated rubber layers 196. These laminated rubber layers 196 follow the bridge girder 192 by deforming in the horizontal direction so that the earthquake-resisting performance can be improved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
