PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for shortening the coil end of a motor wherein spring back of the coil end is reduced and the work of shaping the coil end is facilitated. SOLUTION: The coil end shortening method is for shortening the end 3a of a coil 3, which is extended in the axial direction of a stator 1 and housed, in the axial direction of the stator 1. The shortening method is such that the end 3a of the coil 3 is compressed under pressure in the axial direction of the stator 1, and further the coil end 3a is subjected to heat treatment.
