PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable location of a dust place while eliminating the need of providing a mechanical additional mechanism to a document feeder. SOLUTION: The system includes an original document reader for reading an original document in a 'sheet through' manner and converting the read image data to digital data, a one-line memory for storing at least one line of the read data issued from the reader, a shading corrector 402 for applying shading correction to the read data, and a line display for providing the line display for image zone separation to the read data. The system identifies dirt-sticking position and/or a scarred position in a reading section of the document reader from a shading error signal from the shading corrector and from an image error signal from the line display.
