PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reactor for a chemical process including a gas contact reaction in a high temperature. SOLUTION: The high temperature fixed bed reactor is comprised of a gas impermeable basket which is enclosed by layers of heat insulating materials and suitable for an operation in a high temperature, heat insulating materials which are enclosed by a reactor shell suitable for the operation in the high temperature, the basket which forms a wall enclosing an inlet conduit and a stationary catalyst bed, and the inlet conduit forming an airtight transfer means against the supplied gas is joined with the reactor shell.
