The pressing tool has a handle (34) and two pivotally movable jaws (4) whose ends remote from the jaw mouth (9) are spread out by means of an elbow lever (16) for pressing. The elbow lever is loaded by a pressure rod (17) which is independent of the handle (34). The pressure rod is operated by ratchet gearing (23). An operating lever (24) for the ratchet gearing is provided in association with the handle. Teeth (18) on the pressure rod interact with an engagement tooth (25) of the operating lever.
