PURPOSE: An optical mouse having an improved accuracy of a motion value and a controlling method thereof are provided to improve the accuracy of the motion data by processing the image information of a surface on a table laying the optical mouse in a computer as well as a sensor chip of the optical mouse. CONSTITUTION: An image sensor(410) receives the light reflected from the surface of the table under the control of a shutter control signal. An ADC(Analog Digital Converter)(420) converts an analog signal received from the image senor into a digital signal. A shutter control circuit(430) makes the output of the ADC have a uniform distribution by controlling an electronic shutter the image sensor. A pre-filter(440) converts the output signal received from the ADC into the data for finding out motion. A motion finding block(450) outputs the motion data by receiving an output signal of the pre-filter and calculating a motion value of the optical mouse. A computer interface(460) receives the motion data, the output signal of the ADC, and the shutter control signal, and transmits the data to computer.
