PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chassis stopping system capable of suppressing the lowering of a load handling efficiency in an overall yard produced when a chassis is stopped, and a chassis stopping method. SOLUTION: In this chassis stopping method, the chassis 3 running in one direction on a traveling lane 4 formed in the yard extendedly in one direction is stopped. A yard crane 8 formed in a gantry, comprising the traveling lane 4 and a cargo storage area 6 for storing a plurality of cargos 5, and running over a plurality of storage blocks 7 placed in the yard stops the chassis 3 on the downstream side 7a when the crane is moved from the downstream side 7a of one storage block 7 to the other storage block 7.
