PURPOSE: A user authentication system for the interworking between a CDMA mobile network and a public wireless LAN and a method therefor are provided to execute the same authentication procedure as the user authentication procedure of an existing network, such as a CDMA mobile network, in case that a service user moves to another network, such as a public wireless LAN. CONSTITUTION: A user authentication system(100) for the interworking between a CDMA mobile network and a public wireless LAN comprises an authentication data storage/management part(110), an authentication procedure execution/control part(120), a network access execution part(130), and an operation/management/maintenance part(140). The authentication data storage/management part(110) stores and manages user authentication-associated data, received from an associated base station of the CDMA mobile network, in case that a CDMA mobile subscriber moves to the public wireless LAN. The authentication procedure execution/control part(120), based on the received user authentication-associated data, makes the same authentication procedure as the user authentication procedure of the CDMA mobile network executed. The network access execution part(130) enables the service user to access the public wireless LAN according to a user authentication result obtained through the authentication procedure execution/control part(120). The operation/management/maintenance part(140) processes the functions related to system management and an operator interface for system operations.
