PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earth retaining method which is easy to implement, low in cost, does not damage the nature and the landscape, and mitigates effusion of surface soil on a mountain surface, a slope surface, etc., and to effectively use thinnings being left as they are in huge amounts and forming hindrances to forest and water conservation, to thereby return the thinnings produced in mountains to the mountains. SOLUTION: According to the method, a wooden net of hexagonal patterns as shown in the figure is produced by using 120-degree Y-shaped fittings 4, 120-degree L-shaped fittings 5, and stick thinnings 1. Bolt holes 3, 3a, 3b are formed in each of the thinnings 1 and the fittings 4, 5, so as to be aligned to each other, and therefore the resultant net is freely movable in three directions A-A, B-B, C-C with a connecting bolt 8 of the fixtures 4, 5 and the thinnings 1 as a fulcrum. Then the wooden net is set on the mountain surface, the slope surface, or the like along the unevenness of the ground, and effusion of surface soil in a limited area within each mesh 9 of the wooden net is coped with the thickness of the wooden net, whereby the effusion is dispersed and mitigated by a number of the meshes 9.
