The slide carriages are moved at a distance above electromagnets (102a, 102b) which point with at least one of their poles (Pi) in the direction of the transport plane formed by the slide carriages. Each slide carriage has a permanent magnet (102a) and/or a part of ferromagnetic material so that a force which accelerates the slide carriages transversely to the transport direction can be generated by means of the permanent magnet or ferromagnetic part together with an electromagnet beneath the slide carriage. The electromagnets are arranged in tracks in succession off-set relative to each other across the transport direction.
