The receiver has video (10) and audio (20) signal processing stages, the images being displayed on a flat screen (7). In one of the processing stages a time delay is set by means of a memory (122) which compensates for the different signal processing times between the separate signal paths. Video and audio inputs are provided for both external analog (B1, T1) and digital (B2, T2) signals. An Independent claim is also included for a method of operating an image and sound reproduction device.
