PURPOSE: An image forming and reading apparatus is provided to reduce the number of components of the apparatus to decrease the size and cost of the apparatus. CONSTITUTION: An image forming and reading apparatus includes an image forming unit(38) and an image reading unit(28). The image forming unit forms an image on a supplied recording sheet(2) and the image reading unit reads the image of a supplied document(12). At least a part of a supply path of the recording sheet and at least a part of a supply path of the document are common. The image reading unit is set at the first position moved from the command supply path and the second position where the image of the document supplied through the common supply path is read. A position of reading the image by the image reading unit is placed under the image forming unit in the recording sheet supply direction.
