The peripheral has a portion transmitting control information to a processing unit based on displacement and/or stress applied by a user on a gripping unit (12). A shifting key (13) controls the processing unit to shift from a functioning mode, at which the gripping unit is used for manipulating images to another functioning mode, at which the gripping unit is used as pointing and two dimensional selecting unit. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) an assembly comprising peripheral for manipulating three dimensional medical images (b) an installation for visualizing three dimensional medical images.
