PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of length classification of long matters by which classification and sorting of the length of even a long matter with a composite structure like a brace can automatically be carried out. SOLUTION: The classification apparatus is provided with a length measuring part 13 installed in an end part in the inlet side of a transportation line (a) for supporting a long matter A supplied periodically to the transportation line (a) in the inlet side and sending the long matter A to the line (a) in the length direction and a plurality of taking out parts 14 installed in the middle of the transportation line (a) for taking out the long matter A sent on the transportation line (a). The classification apparatus is constituted so that it determines a taking out part 14 corresponding to the length of the long matter A every time the length of the long matter A is measured by the length measuring part 13 and when the long matter A sent on the transportation line (a) comes to the taking out part 14, the long matter A is detected with a sensor 45 and taken out of the transportation line (a) by this taking out part 14.
