<p>A ground packing characterized by comprising a ground packing base and a water-swellable mineral which is adherent to or has been incorporated into the surface or inner parts of the base. The water-swellable mineral preferably is water-swellable mica. This ground packing is less apt to seize and can exhibit excellent sealing properties, even when the amount of the internal or infiltrated lubricating fluid which oozes out on a sliding surface (oozing amount) is made smaller than in conventional ground packings.</p>
