The fryer has a container (1), a unit for operating the fryer, a gridded basket (2) for depositing the foodstuffs (11) to fry, and a resistance (3) or heating unit. The container is filled for a predetermined amount of water (9) and oil (10). A water level sensor in the container uses the electrical conductivity of water. The water level sensor has an electric terminal (5), while another electrical terminal (15) is located at a point above the former electrical terminal.
