PURPOSE: A battery pack and a handheld apparatus for using the same are provided to charge the battery in a state that the battery is not mounted on the system. CONSTITUTION: A battery pack comprises a connecting terminal(109), a charging circuit(119), a battery cell array(113), a power rail control circuit(111), and a controller. The connecting terminal inputs an external power to the inside of the battery pack. The charging circuit converts the external power inputted through the connecting terminal to a battery charging voltage and controls the battery charge. The battery cell array charges the power for system through the charging circuit and discharges the charged power. The power rail control circuit controls a power supply path for supplying selectively one of the external power and the discharge power of the battery cell array to the system. The controller detects the status of the battery cell array, controls the charging circuit, and transfers the battery information to the system.
