PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying Monascus pigment, by which a stench ingredient can easily be removed to give the Monascus pigment free from the stench and capable of being especially suitably used for food uses. SOLUTION: This method for purifying the Monascus pigment, comprising treating a solution of the Monascus pigment containing the stench ingredient with a column having a synthetic adsorbent charged therein to remove the stench ingredient, is characterized by passing the Monascus pigment solution prepared as an aqueous solvent solution having an ethanol concentration of≤20 wt. % through the column and previously recovering the flowed-out Monascus pigment-containing fraction, before the stench ingredient is broken through the column.
