PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acoustic lens holding body and an ultrasonic search unit the focus points of which for ultrasonic waves are easily changed. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic search unit 1 is provided with a flexible shaft 6 inside a sheath 2 functioning as an acoustic lens and an ultrasonic vibrator 3 is attached to the tip of the flexible shaft 6. An ultrasonic wave propagation medium 5 is filled into the inside of the sheath 2. The sheath 2 comprises a sheath base part 2c, a sheath sub constitution part 2a and a sheath sub constitution part 2b composed of materials of respectively different acoustic velocities. By moving the ultrasonic vibrator 3 back and forth in a longitudinal axis direction inside the sheath 2, the focus point of the ultrasonic search unit is changed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
