PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize more natural color reproduction by suppressing errors in converting color gamut in color gamut compression between devices having different color gamuts. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus for performing color conversion of image data in an image display apparatus 2 by color gamut compression between the apparatus 2 and an image output apparatus which have different color gamuts is provided with a means (19) for obtaining chromaticity points, in a predetermined color space with respect to each pixel of the image data and reducing the color gamut of the apparatus 2 in the predetermined color space so that each of the chromaticity points can be included; a means (8) for calculating a control color for performing color gamut compression on the basis of the reduced color gamut and the color gamut of the apparatus 3; and a color conversion processing section 10 for performing color conversion for the image data on the basis of the control color.
