PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for connecting optical fibers capable of easily connecting optical fibers in a small space without damaging optical fibers and to provide an optical fiber connection structure formed by the method. SOLUTION: The method for connecting optical fibers by using a plug having a ferrule to which an optical fiber is fixed includes processes of: attaching a ferrule positioning member 17 slidably to at least one ferrule 13 in a pair of plugs 15, 16; disposing the ferrules 13, 14 of the respective plugs in the proximity and opposing to each other; sliding the ferrule positioning member 17 in the direction of the center axis of the optical fiber so as to allow the end face of the opposing ferrule to be in the inside of the ferrule positioning member; and abutting the ferrules opposing to each other. The plug can be fixed by placing the plug onto an adapter to manufacture the optical fiber connection structure. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
