PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a highly isotactic poly-α-olefin using a specific transition metal compound. SOLUTION: This method for manufacturing the isotactic poly-α-olefin comprises using an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising (A) the transition metal compound represented by formula (I), (B) an organometallic compound, and (C) a compound reactive with the transition metal compound (I) to form an ion pair. In formula (I), M is Zr or Hf; (m) is an integer of 1-4; R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>6</SP>are the same or different and are each hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydrocarbon group, or the like, and at least two of these may be linked together to form a ring; X is hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydrocarbon group, or the like; and when (n) is at least 2, a plurality of groups represented by X may be the same or different and may be linked together to form a ring.
