PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable peephole of a vacuum vessel, wherein a bonding section formed by brazing a window member to a metal member exhibits improved bonding strength and airtightness and cracks do not appear in the window member by decreasing the stress generated therein. SOLUTION: The peephole of a vacuum vessel comprises an almost cylindrical metal member 11 and an almost disk-type window member 10 which is made of sapphire and of which all the side is bonded to a part of the inner peripheral wall of the metal member 11 with a brazing filler metal 12. In the metal member 11, a projection 11a, to which the outer periphery of one of the main faces of the window member 10 is bonded, is continuously formed over the whole inner periphery at the site at which the window member 10 is bonded. All the side face of the window member 10 is coated with a metallized layer 13, which also covers the peripheral section of one of the main face so as to cover from the outer end of the main face to the position which is nearer to the center of the window member 10 than the projection 11a by a distance 0.5-2 times the thickness of the projection 11a in the axial direction.
