摘要 <p>Method and system for controlling the optimisation of a combustion mixture of an internal combustion engine. The method includes the use of an ionization signal to optimize the air-to-fuel ratio (AFR) of the combustion mixture when the engine is operated at wide open throttle (WOT). This optimisation of the AFR maximises a second peak 166 and valley 164 of the said ionisation signal. Preferably, the AFR control is based on a ratio gradient which is dependent on rich, lean and optimal air fuel mixtures.</p>
