Chimeric serine proteases

A chimeric serine protease compound, comprises two domains with a beta -sheet structure. The first domain corresponds to the first domain of a first serine protease and the second domain corresponds to the second domain of a second serine protease. Independent claims are also included for: (1) recombinant production of the above serine protease; (2) a chimeric serine protease as above in a crystalline form; (3) extraction of crystal structure date for Factor Xa or trypsin protease comprising crystallization of chimeric serine protease as above and determination of structural data for these crystals; (4) production of a substance with antithrombotic activity comprising: (a) contacting the above chimeric serine protease with a target substance; (b) determining the activity of the target on the activity of the known serine protease; (c) inhibiting the activity of the serine protease (with respect to the target substance), which is isolated followed by identification of compound; and (d) synthesizing the target identified substance, in a sufficient quantity for use as a therapeutic agent.
