A liquid crystal medium is based on a mixture of polar compounds having dielectric anisotropy and contains at least two different substituted cyclohexane compounds A liquid crystal medium (I) is based on a mixture of polar compounds having dielectric anisotropy and contains at least one compound of formula (1) and at least one compound of formula (2). R1, R2 = H, optionally halogenated 1-15C alkyl where one or more CH2 groups are optionally replaced by -C-triple bond-C-, -CH=CH-, -O-, -CO-O- or -O-CO-, where O atoms are not directly bonded to each other; X1 = CN, SF5, SCN, NCS, OCN or up to 6C halogenated alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy or alkenyloxy X2 = F, Cl, CN, SF5, SCN, OCN, NCS or halogenated 1-6C alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy or alkenyloxy; Z1, Z2 = -CF2O-, -OCF2- or a single bond with the proviso that Z1 and Z2 are not the same; A, B = formula (3)-(13); and L1-L4 = H of F. An Independent claim is also included for an electro-optical liquid crystal display containing the medium (I). |
