PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paste application method enabling uniform application without spending an excessive device cost, as for a method for applying phosphor paste to a cell between ribs on the back plate of a PDP by an electric jet method. SOLUTION: In this paste application method for forming the phosphor surface of the plasma display panel wherein phosphor paste is filled between ribs of a substrate with a fixed pressure applied to the inside of the manifold of an application head by air, and with a high voltage pulse applied between the nozzle part N of the application head and the substrate G to generate an electric field, while relatively moving the application head by making it face the substrate, the absolute value of the through-rate of the pulse voltage applied is set in a range of 1-500V/μs. Since the paste can be applied to both shoulders within a range causing no color mix, the paste can be uniformly and excellently applied without spending a high cost for a pulse generating device.
