At inner end facing the operation site, the catheter inserted in the blood vessel has a catcher (8) formed from a reticulated sleeve (5) with a collector opening at its end. The catheter is inserted in the vessel downstream of the operation site so the outside wall hugs tight to the vessel wall. Collected fragments are led out from the far end of the catheter. The catheter unit can form the outer wall of the screening sleeve which in turn is impermeable to particles larger than red blood corpuscles. The catcher collector opening is formed by a shape-memory stent (8) having rim-sited eyelets (9) for a thread to draw the opening shut.
