A driver program corresponding to a multi-access communication card in which a serial port of a computer is allocated, and communication is performed via a public communication network in response to an access request from an application. The program comprises an access flag set routine for setting an access flag indicating whether an access to a COM(3) port of the multi-access communication card is permitted, and a COM port open routine for opening the COM(3) port only when the access flag is set for a COM port open request from the application.
