PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL device with secured insulation property between a first electrode layer and a second electrode layer interposing a light-emitting layer, having a flat light-emitting layer which it was difficult to realize by the conventional technology. SOLUTION: A first electrode layer 3, a light-emitting layer 4, and a second electrode layer 5 are formed on a substrate 2 with a gap between them. The problem is solved by constructing the organic EL device 1 by covering, preferably by filling, the space between pixels including a peripheral part of the upper surface of respective pixel light-emitting layers with insulation layers 6.
