<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable control of the processing time of a reproducing side when sound signals of multi-channel are encoded at a variable compression rate. <P>SOLUTION: Prediction circuits 13D1, 13D2, 15D1-15D4 and buffer selectors 14D1, 14D2, 16D1-16d4 prediction-encodes 6 channel sound signals. A DTS generator 17 generates decoding time stamp information indicating the timing at which compression data in an input buffer 22a of a decoding side is read out in accordance with prediction encoding data quantity for each channel, a formatting circuit 19 formats the information into a packet header comprising decoding time stamp information and a packet having user data comprising compression data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
