PURPOSE: A positive red coloring photosensitive resin composition, a color filter formed by using the composition and a solid state image pickup device containing the color filter are provided, to obtain a red coloring composition which has good selectivity to the red light, sufficient optical density, good residual film rate and good solvent resistance and a color filter which has little decrease in pattern film and is reduced in color nonuniformity. CONSTITUTION: The positive red coloring photosensitive resin composition comprises 55-63 parts by weight of a dye; 10-30 parts by weight of a radiation-active compound; 10-25 parts by weight of a curing agent; a solvent; and optionally 1 parts by weight or less of an alkali-soluble resin based on the weight of solid part of the composition. Preferably the dye is a compound represented by D-(SO2NHR1)n or its salt, wherein D is a basic residue of a dye selected from the group consisting of a xanthene compound, an azo compound and an anthraquinone compound; n is an integer of 1-4; R1 is a C3-C20 aliphatic hydrocarbon group, a cyclohexyl group, a C1-C4 alkyl cyclohexyl group, a C3-C24 aliphatic alkoxyalkyl group substituted with a C1-C12 alkoxy group, a C3-C24 aliphatic ester group, or a C7-C20 arylalkyl group, preferably a C7-C20 arylalkyl group having an aryl group selected from phenyl and naphthyl groups capable of being substituted; and R1's are identical or different one another if n is an integer of 2-4.
