A method for producing a heat set plastic container (40) including: providing a mold cavity (20) having sidewall surfaces (17) and base surfaces (19); providing a plastic preform (22) within the mold cavity (20); expanding and stretching the preform (22) into conformity with the sidewall surfaces (17) and the base surfaces (19) to form a plastic container (40) having a sidewall and a base; and inducing crystallinity in the base (41) of the plastic container (40) by applying heat from the base surfaces (19) of the mold cavity to the base (41) of the plastic container (40) and by applying heat from an interior portion of the plastic container (40) to an interior surface of the base of the plastic container.
