PURPOSE: A method for sealing an organic EL device and an organic EL device thereby are provided to remove a defect of a sealing structure by depositing sequentially a metal thin film and an inorganic insulating layer on an organic EL layer without using a sealant. CONSTITUTION: A metal thin film(50) is deposited on an organic EL layer(30) by performing a sputtering process. An inorganic insulating layer such as a silicon nitride layer is deposited thereon. An additional passivation layer is formed by using a polymer. A predetermined pattern(55) is formed on an upper surface of a cathode separator of the organic EL device by performing an exposure process. The metal thin film(50) is separated by etching the metal thin film(50) exposed to the outside along the predetermined pattern(55).
