PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the number of recording sheets remaining in a recorder without using a highly precise sensor. SOLUTION: When detecting the number of recording sheets, the number of recording sheets remaining in the recorder is roughly detected. If the number is below fixed number of remaining recording sheets, the number of remaining recording sheets is detected by counting the recording sheets by utilizing a conveyance system of the recorder.
