842,358. Continuous - - casting machines. MANNESMANN A.G. Sept. 12, 1956 [Sept. 12, 1955], No. 27904/56. Class 83 (1). A continuous-casting plant includes at least one element below the mould for supporting the casting as it leaves the mould, said element or each element having a number of longitudinally-extending members, the axes of which are parallel to the axis of the casting, and which are divided into two groups, the members of at least one group being movable longitudinally and withdrawable from the casting during their upward stroke, during which time the members of the other group continue to bear on the casting. In one embodiment, elongated members 2 are rigidly connected to the mould K and resiliently supported at their lower ends by springs 4, and a further set of elongated members 6 are individually or collectively moved, and bear upon the casting in a predetermined cycle. They accompany the downward movement of the casting, or even accelerate said movement by exerting a withdrawal force. They are then withdrawn from the casting, lifted, and bear again upon the casting. Coolant or lubricant, or both, may be supplied through holes 8. The movement of the casting may be assisted by shaking and vibrating-mechanisms. In a modification, both groups are movable, and are brought to bear alternately upon the casting. For castings of rectangular section, the supporting-devices should be arranged on at least two opposing sides, and for other sections, e.g. circular, the devices should practically surround the casting. |
