<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably form a toner image of high quality by controlling image density while maintaining a fine image forming condition. <P>SOLUTION: A developing bias Vb is set to an optimum value (step S101) and patch images are formed while successively changing and setting exposure energy E in its variable range (steps S102-S105). The density of the patch images is detected (step S106) and an optimum value of the exposure energy E is calculated on the basis of the detected result (step S109). When the density of any patch image does not reach target density or exceeds the target density (steps S107, S108), reverse contrast voltage Vr is reduced or increased only by one step (steps S110, S111) and then the exposure energy E is controlled again. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
