PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sensor for speedily, easily, and accurately analyzing a small amount of matter to be measured. SOLUTION: One end part of an optical waveguide constituted of a core 101 and a cladding 102 is provided with an exposed part of the core 101 from which the cladding 102 is removed. A detecting substance is fixed to the surface of the exposed part of the core 101 to be a sample contact part 110. Since the refractive index of the surface of the core 101 changes when the detecting substance is selectively adsorbed in or combined with the matter to be detected at the sample contact part 110, light leakage from the core 101 changes. Light is made incident onto the optical waveguide from a light source 105, and changes in the light leakage at the sample contact part 110 are measured at a light receiving part 106 to detect the presence or absence of the matter to be detected.
